A Collegiate’s Graduating Thoughts

the-dc-ladies-collegiate-club Hello, my fellow DC Ladies! I must say that it has been an amazing year and more with The DC Ladies as a Collegiate Contributor but sadly, just as my college career comes to an end, so must my time contributing for such an amazing site. I am in my final semester of college and prepping for graduation and I have so many thoughts running through my head. College was probably one of the best experiences of my life: I found myself, began blogging, got engaged to my high school sweetheart, traveled to Israel, and have so much more than I ever imagined doing. Today, I want to share with you what thoughts are constantly running through my mind and tips I have for all you Collegiate Club members.

THOUGHTS

I must admit…I never thought I’d make it this far. College was by far one of the most difficult experiences for me; it challenged me in ways I never expected and felt so unprepared for. I remember my first semester of college and I remember how motivated I was and the excitement of creating my own schedule and the independence. It was magical. Who would’ve thought that within a year, my motivation would plummet and the struggle to figure out what I want to do in life would hit me so suddenly. I cried a lot, whether it was over grades or just feeling so overwhelmed with expectations. I guess this was when blogging became so important to me. I had this urge to write and take pictures, so I did just that. I found something to keep me motivated and sane throughout the years of college and it has led me to The DC Ladies and other companies and bloggers who have inspired me, my writing, my photography style, and even in my fashion style. Blogging also managed to encourage me to follow my own dreams and walk on my own path where I’d study Journalism and Linguistics and actually feel pretty awesome about the decisions I made.

Now that I am graduating, it’s beginning to hit me how hard I worked in school, at my job, and my website. I had periods of struggle and times where the motivation just wasn’t there and I had to take a semester off just to prepare myself for the next. I look back at the progress I’ve made and I am astounded and proud just as my parents and fiancé are of me. I suppose I want to take a moment to tell you ladies in college to just keep pressing forward and it’s okay to take some time to re-focus and recuperate if you feel overwhelmed. You will be okay and you will pull through.

TIPS

Before I end this post, I want to share a few tips that have helped me in my college career and I hope will help and encourage you as well.

Follow and Pursue Your Dreams. Choose a major that you feel comfortable with and can see yourself making a career out of. If you don’t, you are most likely going to regret it.

Be Yourself. You are not going to make it in life pretending to be someone you aren’t. Just do what you love, dress how you like, study what you want, and be who you want to be.

Don’t Be Afraid. College may seem scary…actually, the real world definitely seems scary. Don’t be afraid and take your time. You will pull through and learn so much from it.

Don’t Procrastinate. I think that’s self-explanatory.

Help Others. There are people who are afraid or in need of help in college so try to lend a helping hand whenever you can.

Don’t Forget to Smile.
